The Good, The Bad and the Really Ugly

Port City Cafe
2418 14th Street
Gulfport, Mississippi

As with all locations, there is a little of everything.

Beer selection: nothing spectacular.
Food: fair to poor.

The Good: the fried green tomatoes and crab dip - this is as good as it gets. It was delicious and a very good dish.

The Bad: well, for dinner I ordered the stuffed shrimp. What do you think it would be - a large shrimp butterflied and stuffed with crab meat, right? Wrong. This was a small raw shrimp wrapped in a ball of stuffing, and then deep fried. The outside was burnt to the point where it smelled like the bottom of the deep fryer. The first one I bit into and ate didn't have the right consistency for shrimp. The second one I opened up and found the shrimp still raw. The rest were left on the plate uneaten.

And now for The Ugly: Well, you know what happens when you eat a bad shrimp. You spend the rest of the evening in the hotel room evacuating your soul. I don't recommend this place unless you have no taste buds or you're bulimic.

GOOD Chinese Food

Panda Palace
15200 Crossroad Pkwy
Biloxi, Mississippi

Food: excellent

Good things come in weird places. This was an unplanned stop after a really bad movie. This place rocks. $7.95 for all you can eat. The sushi line is the best I have ever had, even in a good sushi restaurant. The food on the buffet was excellent; everything was cooked right. Most times, the items are cooked to death; this was not. And above all, they served clams. This is my first post that gets a big thumbs up.

Sometimes It's More Than The Food

Huddle House
311 Hwy 82
Winona, Mississippi
(exit 184 off Rt 55)

Food: not great
Atmosphere: unbearable

Sometimes its more than just the food.  Today's stop was for a simple salad. Enough said.  But there are times a visit is required to see the atmosphere of a restaurant, and this one wins hands down.

First there was the cook.  The only thing I can say is she must breath out of her ass, because she never shut up once for the entire time I was there - a total of 30 minutes - not even to inhale.  I know how the Taliban feel in Guantanamo Bay with the constant music playing in the background.  At the 15 minute mark, I was almost willing to tell her all I knew, if she would just shut up!

Second was Carol the waitress.  She was a 50 triple F. Most times, to a guy, that's a good thing, but this was packaged in a Huddle House tee shirt and no bra. The triple F's hung to her waist. It looked like she had two cantaloupes in Wal-Mart shopping bags hanging from her shoulders.  I was afraid to ask her for another cup of coffee because if she had spun around too quick she would have killed someone. Then again, that may have gotten rid of problem number one.

So if you're in the area, stop by for a cup of coffee, I don't recommend anything more than that, because this is all most people will be able to take.

Welcome To My Nightmare or Buddy, Can You Spare a Pizza?

First things first, why start this blog?

I travel a lot around the Midwest for work.  As such, I am forced to endure the torments of poor quality food in various parts of this United States.  I thought that maybe I could pass along some of the good and bad places that I have eaten, and hopefully save you the same pain and suffering I have endured.

My Background:  I am an engineer, and a good cook.  I was blessed with growing up in the South Jersey area with the Italians and Greeks and the home of the diner.  The place where you can get a full course meal at any time of the day and night. This is the mecca of good food, no matter what other people say.  This gave me a base to work with, and as you know talking to most engineers, they are not afraid to tell you the truth, or the truth as they see it.  Am I an expert on food? No, but I'm the best you're going to get.

Also, I have eaten a lot of Sisco food - this is the prefab food that the Applebee's and Chi-Chi's of the world serve.  This is the best of the worst.  You know what you're going to get, but you're not looking forward to it.  I avoid these like the plague. So I won't waste my time rating those.  They are all exactly the same, and they all suck.  Also McDonald's makes good coffee, but after that you're out of luck.

How this will work - I am going to list the locations by state and town, then restaurant and address.  This will allow you to find them by location if you want to try them.

So good luck and good eating.
